Silence is Golden, 2016 Shiraz
||Deep, dense black-purple with crimson hue.
||Intensely aromatic when allowed to open up. Plum, blackberry, liquorice, black olive and a fine touch of oak and pepper.
||Voluptuous, opulent and yet refined are the trademarks of Silence is Golden. This year its a highly concentrated wine featuring alluring flavours of blackberry, satsuma plum, dark cherry and cassis with velvety smooth tannins, great intensity and length.
||Sourced from a single vineyard in Greenock on the western side of the Barossa Valley from vines aged up to 56 years. We believe the 2016 vintage produced the best fruit we have seen since 2012 which was one of the standout vintages of the past decade. The Shiraz grapes were individually picked out in the vineyard for their exceptional quality and picked separately to the rest of the vineyard. The grapes were hand picked and delivered to the winery and gently worked through the de-stemmer before being transferred to an open fermenter with 20% whole berries. The juice is pumped over twice a day for seven days to extract, homogenize and regulate temperature before draining and loading the basket press. The skins are then gently pressed for approximately 20 hours to retrieve more of the essence of the grape. After the wine has completed its malolactic ferment, it is matured in new and seasoned American and French oak barrels for 18 months prior to bottling with minimal fining and filtration.
||Allow it to breathe if drinking early. This wine is built to last and will drink magnificently over the next decade.

Pretty plum aromas and palate has a lovely sweet berry flavours. Nice lift of acidity and good finish.

There is a savory flare to dense plum and blackberry on the nose that’s accentuated by bitter chocolate and a faint sweetness of oak.
The balance that has been struck between French and American oak is masterful, the French gives spice and structure, with the American giving tannin and velvety richness to deeply concentrated black fruits.
The length to finish is significant with blackberry compote interjected by gentle spice and a moreish line of acidity that keeps the wine fresh and focused before drying, tarry black fruits take over with unsweetened liquorice.
A wine built for the long term.
