The Barking Dog, GSM
Variety Grenache/Shiraz/Mataro
Region Barossa Valley
Alc/Vol 14.0%
Winemaker John Harris
Colour Dark purple with some lighter shades of red.
Bouquet Vivid red and black forest fruits with notes of freshly cut plum and blackberry. Cherry, spice , strawberry and floral also play an integral role.
Palate Generous mid weight wine with flavours of blackberry, plum, strawberry, cherry and a touch of spice to round it out. The fine subtle tannins and acid providing the core structure whilst the natural fruit sweetness from the Grenache ensures fruit is the shining light. The tannins and acid combine with perfectly balanced oak. It’s a fine flowing style of wine with just the right amount of weight and finesse whilst still giving length.
Winemaking The Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro fruit were all sourced from the Greenock region of the Barossa Valley from low yielding old vines. The fruit was hand picked and delivered to the winery and gently worked through the de-stemmer before being transferred to an open fermenter. The juice was pumped over twice a day for seven days to extract, homogenize and regulate temperature before draining and loading the basket press. The skins are then gently pressed for approximately 20 hours to retrieve more of the essence of the grape. This juice is then blended with the juice collected earlier. After the wine has completed its malolactic ferment, it is matured in seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months prior to bottling.
Cellaring Potential Great to drink now whilst young and vibrant, but will mature and develop complexity over the next 5-8 years.

Lovely fruit driven style with savoury nose and sweet fruit flavours with a dash of spice and a hint of oak. Good flavour length.
Winestate Magazine, Barossa & Eden Valley Regional Tasting, March/April 2017 Edition
A delightfully spicy plum nose that’s intense and warm. The palate is big and ripe, but balanced with plenty of plum fruit flavours. The soft tannins build to a firm finish.
Patrick Eckel Wine Reviewer – 94 POINTS
An inky dark red in the glass with a nose that is a heady mix of blackberry, plum, liquorice all sorts and understated tobacco. The palate is medium to full bodied and provides a supple, generous expression of black fruits that slowly show a more savoury and sullen side with earth, tobacco and charcuterie notes making themselves known. The finish has drive and presence with well-defined blackberry fruit interjected by oak induced spice and layered tannins.

The value here is incredible.
